Our Belletrista Bag is On the Move!
|
|
Did you guess where our Belle bag is?
C. Lariviere from Austin, Texas
took this picture of her Belle bag at the Gyeongbokgung Palace in
Seoul, Korea. Known as the "Palace of Shining Happiness", it was first
built in 1394 and is the main and largest palace of the five palaces
that reside in Seoul. Although Korean literature in translation is
only now starting to emerge, with such a rich history and trains full
of readers, it is certain to prove its importance in the future. For a
taste, try reading "Tongue" by Seoul's own Kyung-Ran Jo.
Thumbnails, Left to right:
1. Traditional wood painting of the palace awnings. Everything is hand-painted!
2. There is no place you can't take a good picture on the palace grounds such as this tree framing the
National Folk Museum of Korea.
3. Belle had the privilege of seeing the palace under fresh snow! The contrast of the bright palace walls
against the crisp white snow made for a stunning view.
4. A groom pours tea for his bride in a traditional Korean wedding. This was only one of the many traditional acts
performed in the wedding which included numerous bows to the families, envelopes of money given to the couple and a nice piggy
back ride from the groom for his bride!
5. This statue is of the famed king, Sejon the Great, the creator of Korean's modern writing system, hangul.
