Our Belletrista Bag is On the Move!
|
|
Did you guess where our Belle bag is?
Our Belle bag has traveled only 10 mi/16 km from Belletrista headquarters to Orchard House, in Concord, Massachusetts (US), home of
19th century American author Louisa May Alcott. Alcott is most noted for her much-loved novel, Little Women (1868), which was written from
the desk in her room (upstairs windows right of center) and was set in the Alcott home. Orchard House was having some work
done on its chimney on the recent warm and sunny Spring day we visited, so we include a full picture of the house taken in the
Autumn that doesn't have the scaffolding on the roof and the yellow tape around the house. Other photos include a portrait of
Louisa May, a closeup of Orchard House's front door, and a picture of Louisa May's gravesite in nearby Sleepy Hollow cemetary, where she
is buried with the rest of her family.
To learn more about Louisa May Alcott we recommend any one of three biographies on her: Louisa May Alcott: A Modern Biography by Martha
Saxon (1995), Louisa May Alcott: A Biography by Madeleine B. Stern (1999), or Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women
by Harriet Reisen (2009).
