Did you guess where our Belle bag is? Our managing editor Lois, her sister-in-law and
niece were in Iceland in November. Lois tells us, "What a wondrous place Iceland is! And it is so difficult to show Iceland in
just four photographs! We have set the Belletrista bag against the waterfront sculpture, 'Solar Voyager' designed by Jón Gunnar Árnason (and that's my niece). When looking at it, it is difficult
not to think of the Vikings who played such an important part in Iceland's history. We learned so much in our
three days there; we all want to go back and see even more."
Left to right:
1. "Icelandic ponies at the Laxnes Farm outside of Reykjavik taken by my sister-in-law. She and her daughter went
horseback riding in winter gear one morning as it snowed."
2. "Iceland has so many sites of geological interest! We visited volcanic craters, geysers, hot springs and waterfalls.
Here is the huge and partially frozen Gullfoss waterfall in the southwest of
Iceland. In the larger picture you can see people on the rocky outcropping near the fall's edge. The path down to it was somewhat
icy that day and I did not brave it, though my companions did."
3. "What better way to show everybody the unique Icelandic architecture than to include a photo of the
Hallgrimskirkja cathedral, which is the tallest building in Iceland, seen here from the street below. And yes, the clock says
3 p.m. and the cars are driving with their lights on!"
